According to some sources, in 1805, the American inventor Oliver Evans designed the first cooling machine. Ten years later, his compatriot the doctor John Goorie, a doctor of Florida,constructed a refrigerator based on Evans's design to do ice that was cooling the air for his patients of yellow fever.
But all that they were not but palliative of scanty efficiency. It was necessary towait 1834. That year the North American, resident in London, Jacob Perkins, made for the first time of the history the artificial ice. When his employees presented the first sample, he limited itselfto saying: ' Really it is very cold '. It was an important step for the manufacture of the first refrigerators.
The first modern device that used Perkins's invention, appeared in 1850. It was avoluminous great object, like cupboard in whose interior was getting big blocks of ice. These chambers were isolating with lining of slate, and the food was settling in small compartments, since the ice,together with the insulating material, was occupying almost everything the useful space. More than refrigerators or refrigerators were simple iceboxes that were not differing in much from the "cupboards of snow " of the 16th century.
