QUANTIFIERS

A quantifier, as its name implies, expresses quantity. Quantifiers are words that are used to state quantity or amount of something. Quantifiers answer the questions "How many?" and"How much?"
Quantifiers must agree with the noun. There are 3 main types of quantifiers. Quantifiers that are used with countable nouns[->0], quantifiers that are used with uncountable nouns[->1]. andthe quantifiers that are used with either countable nouns[->2] or uncountable nouns[->3].

Quantifiers with countable and uncountable nouns

Some adjectives and adjectival phrases can only gowith uncountable nouns (salt, rice, money, advice), and some can only go with countable nouns (friends, bags, people).
Some quantifiers can only be used with singular count nouns: One, Each, Every.example: one person
Some quantifiers can only be used with plural count nouns: two, a few, many, a couple of, a number of, a majority of, both, several.
Some quenatifiers can only be used withnon-count nouns: a little, less, much, not as much, a great deal of.
Some quantifiers can be used with both count and non.coun nouns: no, some/any, a lot of/lots of, a third of, plenty of, most, all, more.example: more countries, more interest

Note: much and many are used in negative and question forms.
Example:
How much money have you got?
There's not much sugar in the cupboard.
How manycigarettes have you smoked?

There weren't many people at the party
They are also used with too, (not) so, and (not) as

There were too many people at the party.
It's a problem when there areso many people.
There's not so much work to do this week.
In positive clauses with so, as or too, we also use much / many.
Example:
Carla has so many friends.
She has as many friends as Sue.Kevin has too much money.


In positive statements, we use a lot of:

· I've got a lot of work this week.

· There were a lot of people at the concert.
