Project: Quinquela Martin’s paintings



Class 1

T brings a computer to class and a projector. She tells Ss they re going to see some pictures.
The first picture shows a man painting.
T asks: Whois he? Do you know him?
Ss answer yes! (Because they’ve already seen the picture with the art teacher)
T asks: What’s his name?
Ss…
S1: He is Quinquela.
S2: Es un pintor famoso!!
T: YES! He is afamous painter! Repeat: Painter!
Ss repeat the word and teacher writes it on the board: He is Quinquela Martin. He is a famous painter.
T asks: Is he Agentinian?
Ss Yes!!
T writes on the board: He isArgentinian.
Look at the photo: Where is he?
Ss: “En un barco”
T: mmm...“It’s a BOAT”... He is in a BOAT!

T shows another picture

T: Look at this Picture! What’s similar to the other?
Ss answer:¡Esta pintando!
T: Yes...He is painting. What do you think he like painting?
Ss. BARCOS... RIOS ... MUELLES... CASAS
T: Yes! Ships, rivers, piers, houses...
Teacher writes on the board: He likespainting ships, rivers, piers and houses.

Teacher asks students to think of a title for the sentences she has already written on the board. To do so, they work in groups where they have to write in a pieceof paper the title. Once they have decided a title Ss hand out their papers to the T and she puts them into a box. She mixes them and a student chooses one. T copies it on the board and asks them tocopy all the sentences. Meanwhile, T hands out the same pictures she has already shown them with the projector. So then they have to paste them on their folders.

As homework she asks them to go homeand ask their family if they know anything about QuinquelaMartin’s life and paintings.


Class 2

T starts the class asking Ss the information they have collected at home.
She helps them saying someexamples about her family’s opinion. E.g.: My grandfather doesn’t like his paintings, my sister doesn’t know him, my uncle has visited Quinquela’s museum, etc (she repeats the sentences)
