RESUMEN

ABSTRACT

A diferencia de – y en complementariedad con - los artículos de este número
que analizan la biodiversidad de la quinua en Chile a partir la situaciónactual o de las
lecciones del pasado, esta comunicación estudia la cuestión de la biodiversidad
explorando diferentes futuros posibles. Se utiliza la herramienta de los escenarios, que
se basa en la elaboración de proyecciones para el futuro a partir de hipótesis de
trabajo.

Unlike of – but complementing with- the articles in this issue that review the
biodiversity of Quinua in Chile from the currentsituation or the lessons of the past, this
communication examines the biodiversity of this crop by exploring different likely future
avenues. We use the tool of the scenarios, based on the development of future
projections based on assumptions.

Tomando en cuenta fuerzas exógenas que estructuran la biodiversidad
(mercado para exportación o para el mercado nacional) y fuerzas endógenas
(afirmaciónde una identidad cultural, de valores patrimoniales o territoriales), en las
tres principales regiones productoras de quinua en Chile, esbozamos ocho escenarios.
Observamos que entre ellos y para cada uno de ellos emergen tensiones y conflictos
entre lógicas: de mercado, territorial e identitaria. El manejo de estas tensiones hace
parte de los desafíos que esperan a los portadores de losescenarios identificados.
Cada uno de ellos tiene consecuencias sobre la evolución y el manejo de la
biodiversidad de la quinua y, por ende, conduce a re-ajustes o re-orientaciones
necesarias en las futuras actividades de investigación o de promoción de este cultivo.

Taking into account exogenous forces that do structurebiodiversity (for export
market and/or for domestic market) and endogenous forces (affirmation of cultural
identity, heritage values or specific local attributes) in the three main production regions
of quinua in Chile. We outline eight possible stages. We note that each and every one
of them evokes emerging tensions and conflicts between various logic circuits: market,
territorial affinities andidentity. The management of these tensions is part of the
challenges facing the promoters of the identified scenarios. Each one has implications
for the evolution and biodiversity management of quinua and thus leads to readjustments or re-orientations required in future research activities and promotion of
this crop.
