The Problem of the social Network
The idea for the internet came from a guy named J.C.R. Licklider in the year 1962. Since then the internet has evolved and changed a lot, at the beginning it wasthought to satisfy military needs such as developing was technology, or beating the Soviets in technological advancements. Nowadays the internet is used in so many ways there is not a specific use forit anymore. One of this uses is called social networking, the first social network to ever come online; it was launched in 2002.
As years have passed many more social networking sites have beenlaunched, the most important ones, I think, are MySpace and Facebook. This websites have lured people into interacting with them over the last years, and they have come to the point in which they all havemore users registered than the actual worldwide population. Facebook alone has over 500 million active users; they say it’s the biggest country in the world. But while social networking continues togrow, so do the dangers, the rate of people abused, kidnapped or killed because of social networks has grown exponentially in the last couple of years. “Most social networking sites are open to all,especially MySpace, which means that your teen could be exposed to harassment, bullying or sexual advances”.
Social networking is harmful to the users who use it because of both psychological andphysical damages. These social networks such as Facebook or MySpace are good hunting grounds for sexual predators who seek young teenagers to satisfy their perverted minds. “MySpace is the most dominantsocial network among teens, used by 85% of teenagers who use social networks” There are several cases in which girls around the age of 15 are attracted by these predators, which end up being killersand kill the girls after having raped them.
We can conclude that social network show us an technological advance, but it’s evident that we live in a society where the individual interests prevails...
