Racism is a very subtle topic to touch because this topic can greatly affect a person and his/her feelings as well as lifestyles. Racism is found all over the world, but in the United Statesis a more delicate topic than in other cultures. Many people are highly sensitive to talk about it, because they have experienced what it feels to be an outcast. It is very hard to imagine someonethat cannot live as freely as the rest. Things have gotten much better, but Racism is a subject that will always be on the plate, unless everybody in the world realizes that although we are all uniqueand different, we are all equal at the same time. As Christians, we should understand the meaning of equality, because we know that the Creator, God, made us all unique but equal and He loves us all.It is very cruel to judge someone just because of his/her appearance or ethnicity. Racism is similar to the word in Spanish for roots, “raices”. One should always be proud of his/her roots andethnicity. In order to change the way people think towards others, children should be well educated and raised with good principles and values. Good values need to be taught to children in order for them tounderstand what is right and what is wrong, bad or good, correct or incorrect.
The video we watched in class really helped me to understand the importance of teaching children not to be racist andto love each other the same way. In the video, the teacher told the kids that those with blue eyes were better than the ones with brown eyes, making the kids with brown eyes feel less loved and lessvaluable. The kids with blue eyes instantaneously got the feeling of superiority and they were mean to the kids with brown eyes and they looked at them as inferior. The next day, the teacher told thesame class that she had lied and that the kids with brown eyes were far better than the ones with blue eyes.
