The Entity of America
The play The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity written by Kristoffer Diaz is a metaphoricalrepresentation of how America perceives “other” people. By other people I am referring to people of color. The main character is Mace he is Puerto Rican. Olsen (a.k.a. Eko) is the Caucasian owner of THEWrestling. Chad Deity, is shown as the main showman whom everybody loves. Lastly, VP is Indian American who himself is unique. He is unique because what is thought to be a traditional Indian-American iswrong. In this play there are plenty of stereotypical references and the characters in the play are all unique and come from different ethnic backgrounds.
At one point in the story Mace is describingthe performances for the wrestling matches, to which there is a deeper connotation. “…not the story lines, not the competition, not the dazzling physiques…..that professional wrestling is the mostuniquely profound artistic expression of the ideals of the United States.” This is intriguing because it represents how the United States is metaphorically a wrestling match. As the United States hasmany followers, a wrestling match has many people watching. People follow their role models so when the United States are portraying stereotypical images, people will follow and go along. Mace evensnames the United States to show that there is recognition

between the two. Wrestling matches traditionally have manydistractions they detour or stop you from seeing truth of how people act. With all the colored flashing lights it is hard to see clearly. This is related to America because there are subliminalconnotations in this society, from the television that we watch to actions of people. We simply don’t see this because we are too distracted with bigger details of how the appearance looks and not the true...
