Cholera
Cholera is an infection of the small intestine that is caused by the bacterium vibrio cholera the main symptoms are profuse watery diarrhea andvomiting. These symptoms usually start suddenly, one to five days after ingestions of the bacteria. Transmission is primarily through consuming contaminated drinking wateror food. The severity of the diarrhea and vomiting can lead to rapid dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.
Primary treatment is with oral rehydration solutionsand if these are not tolerated intravenous fluids. Antibiotics are beneficial in those with severe forms.
Worldwide it affects 3-5 million people and causes100,000-130,000 deaths a year is of 2010. Cholera was one of the earliest infections to be studied by epidemiological methods.
Cholera has arrived in the DominicanRepublic, and it has caused fear and worry. But experts say tourists planning on visiting the country´s famous beaches should not cancel their trips.
The bacterialintestinal disease has already killed more than 1,100 people in neighboring Haiti and hospitalized more than 18,000 others. Dominican official said that the firstcase had been detected in their nation in a 32-year-old Haitian construction worker who returned to the Dominican Republic from a visit to his homeland.
My opinionabout this disease is very bad. I thank that we must try to avoid it. Everybody shuld wash their hards with soap and try to maintain then clean with hardsanitizers, this way we maintain ourselves free of the disease.
