RFID
The purpose of this paper is to provide a briefoverview about RFID Technology. This technology is very important nowadays because it is used to track almost any item from living bodies to drugs.
RFID means Radio-Frequency Identification, and it “refersto small electronic devices that consist of a small chip and an antenna. And this chip typically is capable of carrying 2,000 byte of data or less”(http://www.technovelgy.com/ct/Technology-Article.asp?ArtNum=1).
The RFID technology has a similar purpose as the bar code or a magnetic strip because it needs to be scanned to obtain the information. And it has been available for more than fifteenyears; however until now companies such as Alien Technologies are manufacturing and selling tags a reasonable cost.
There are three components of an RFID system: RFID tags, readers or sensors, and aserver or docking station. RFID tags are electronically programmed, there are three types of tags; read only, write-once-read-many (WORM), and red/write. The read only tags have the informationencoded at the time of manufacture and are not rewritable and only contain item identification. The WORM tags are programmed by whoever is using them without the ability of rewriting them and the cancontain information and item identification at the same time. And the read/write tags are the more convenient because the information can be added and changed at anytime. (www.webopedia.com) also the tagscan be passive and active. They are passive when they use the radio frequency from the reader to transmit their signal, and they are active when they contain a board battery for power to transmittheir data signal over a greater distance.
The readers or sensors are utilized to interrogate the tags, which means, that they are designed to detect and read tags to obtain their information. And the...
