A. 1.Divorced men huddle together in groups because they confort one another telling their stories.
2.The plot of their stories is usually the same. There are three main characters, thehusband,the wife (who was a fale woman who cheated on her husband), and the dirty dog (who was the wife’s buddy). But it’s a different story then and the wife is the one that ends up humiliated.
3.Ithink they like the story of Mrs. Bixby and the coat because it´s a real one.
4.Mrs. Bixby used to travel to Baltimore to visit her old aunt onde a month, and she returned to New York on thefollowing day in order to make the dinner for her husband.
5.They seemed to be a common marriage, and they trusted each other; we can see that on the several trips Mrs. Bixby made during theyear).
6.Mrs. Bixby thought that the Colonel had given her away the coat to torture her, because he expected her to tell Mr. Bixby that the coat was her aunt’s present; but he knew for sure thatAunt Maude couldn’t afford to buy a coat like that.
7.She decided to go to a pawnbroker because she had to do something so that her husband couldn’t see her arriving with the coat.
8.Mrs.Bixby thinks her husband always wears ridiculous clothes and she compare him with a caritarure of Sam Weller.
9.Apparently, Mr. Bixby wanted to go to the pawnbroker’s because he said that her.wife didn’t know anything about pawns and she could get cheated; and Mrs. Bixby wanted to go to the pawnbroker’s alone because she didn’t want to be recognized as an old costumer in her husband’spresence.
10.In my opinión the ending is unexpected because the unfaithfulness of Mr. Bixby is not mentioned in any part of the story and everybody thinks that he had got cheated and the pawnbrokertook the possession of the coat. But what really happens is that Mrs. Bixby was having an affair with his secretary-assistant, and he decided to give her the mink coat.
