Reading is a very extensive topic to be analyzed because there are many aspects that we can evaluate to know why Reading is not developed effectively. It is necessary find out reasons why people do not use strategies precisely.
According to Frank Smith, “reading is the most natural activity in the world” (Smith, F. Understanding Reading, pag.2, 2004) and the question is why students or generalpeople are not able to read in this natural way. The reason for this research is going to be explained next.
LEI English 5 students do not participate actively in discussions. They do not understand texts. They do not seem to use reading strategies correctly.
The purpose of this research is to determine what strategies students use when they read and if they are helping them to understandtexts.
Research questions: To what extent do students apply the K-W-L strategy to get main ideas? Do they use previous knowledge to facilitate their understanding? Do they set up objectives before reading? Do they evaluate the accomplishment of objectives when they finish reading? Do they feel any kind of satisfaction when they read?
This research is qualitative. The method used for the collectionof data is the interview. The results show

According with those results we can find that the main reason for which students do not understand reading is that they do not know how to apply their background knowledge with the new information they are receiving. Their reading is something insufficient, meaningless and an obligated activity.
Talking about reading is something difficult becauseeverything we do implies be responsible with the consequences and if we are not taught to use strategies in reading since the beginning of our learning we will not be able to interpret the world through all those books that we read.
Firstly, we must say that we do not only read books, we read the weather, state of the tides, people’s feelings and intentions, stock market trends, animal tracks, maps, signals, signs, symbols, hands, tea leaves, the law, music, mathematics, minds, body language. So, why we take read a piece of writing as something different, difficult that we cannot understand; it is just a special use of the term reading (Smith, F. 2004). And the results of this thoughts is that the education level in this country is too low, most of our knowledge we acquire is by reading butthere is something that we have not analyzed yet; what would happen if we discover that students are reading but with other resources? The use of internet is a daily activity, we cannot forget our cellphone, a laptop is our best friend; in other words, students are actually reading but not the same kinds of reading. Of course it is a problem however, they are not using strategies to use theseresources effectively and the problem continues. I must mention that exist some reasons why the development of this activity had been turned into different comprehension problems. According to Frank Smith, students are confronted to read when it is not the best time for them to learn and this gives us erroneous experiences about reading. Also, the second reason can sound more dramatic and it is thatstudents have been confused; instead of being helped, they have been handicapped to read.
Sometimes teachers and parents are not trained to develop students’ strategies but I will show later that it is not difficult using strategies to comprehend a text, it belongs to our brains in a natural way so, and we just need the effective information and apply it in our daily activities.
In addition, Ihave already mentioned the word “comprehension” and for me to explain how we can comprehend something; I need to explain what comprehension is.
According to Russell Stauffer, the author of “Teaching reading as a thinking process”, “comprehension skills embrace the finding and using of facts, integrating facts, going beyond facts, generalizing, making judgments, discriminating, appreciating...
