Reflection on Rebekah
Rebekah is the wife of Isaac whom is the son of Sarah’s and Abraham’s promise child. She is chosen to be Isaac’s wife because she strong, hardworking andbeautiful. In the book Women in the Sacred Scriptures it is written that Rebekah is chosen by isaccs servant. The servant meets his master’s future wife by a well where he testsher by asking her if she is willing to give him a drink of water. The beautiful girl successfully passes the servants test and after the servant explains to her that she has beenchosen to be Isaac’s wife she takes him home to share the good news with her family. Shortly after, both the servant and Rebekah leave on their journey to get to where Isaac will bewaiting for his wife. As soon as they arrive, Isaac takes Rebekah and marries her and then, later on in the marriage she bears twin sons Esau and Jacob.
Rebekah is like Isaac’smother Sarah in more than one way. For starters they are both described as being extremely beautiful so much that they also both had to pretend to be their husband’s sitters at onepoint so that their husband’s would not get killed. Also they are both described as strong and decisive, Rebekah shows this when she readily decides to leave with Isaacs servantinstead of staying with her family. Finally they were both mothers to two boys but favored one over the other. Sarah on one hand favored Isaac over her surrogate son and on the otherhand, Rebekah favored Jacob over Esau even though they were both her own. Over all, the two women we have looked at so far have very similar characteristics both physically andemotionally. Also they seem to follow a patter in lifestyle because they undergo similar circumstances and more than anything they play a crucial role in fulfilling God’s word.
