Even at the young age of 15, Zach Bonner is making an enormous impact.
Whereas most teens his age are only beginning to consider their future and potential colleges, Zach has already beenspearheading the Little Red Wagon Foundation (or LRWF), a national ministry to homeless youth, for almost a decade. Working with major corporations—not to mention receiving the support of four differentpresidents—Zach and his family passionately seek to raise awareness about the over one million homeless youth and children in the United States.
"It's exciting for me to see how these majorcorporations have become supportive of the mission," Zach beams. "After all, I was only 6 years old when I started."
That's right. Six years old.
Zach's story begins in 2004, in the aftermath of HurricaneCharley. Primarily affecting Florida, Hurricane Charley devastated much of the state with property damage estimated at approximately $5.4 billion. Worried about the families that were affected by thestorm, a then 6-year-old Zach began to pile bottles of water in his wagon and deliver them to those in need. This simple act of kindness and care was the beginning of LRWF.
"I had no intention forit to turn into what it is today. We had extra water and there were a thousand people that were in desperate need of it. After that though, we were able to expand even more."
Since then, Zach hascontinued to grow his foundation with the development of Zach Packs, backpacks that are distributed to homeless youth that are filled with essential needs and a toy—an addition which he feels is vitalin order to "lets kids be kids". What's more, at the age of 13, Zach also embarked on his remarkable "March Across America". Walking from Tampa, FL to Los Angeles, CA, Zach travelled for seven monthsat roughly 20-30 miles a day in an effort to raise awareness of the homeless, an experience that he feels was transforming.
