REFLECTION ON LETTER TO MYSELF

Reflecting back on the letter to myself written September 17, 2009; I am happy to say that what I initially wrote in the letter came very close to what Iactually experienced in the service learning placement. I had many opportunities to participate in different activities that allowed me to interact with people of all ages. For example during the Halloweenhaunt event the main groups were kindergarten and elementary school children. At the SJAM basketball event I interacted with middle school children. For the Chedoke school council I had theopportunity to interact with parents and discuss with them school politics. During some other visits I was also able to talk to teachers and discuss with them about the well being of the students and how I canhelp to enhance their studying skills and learning experiences. Although there were some obstacles such as the H1N1 virus that caused the cancellation of many service learning opportunities; it isimportant to mention how much I love being an active member of the Hamilton Wentworth District School board, and how thrilled I am of being able to help make a difference in these children’s lives.Through the different activities that I attended I was also able to show other members of the community such as parents and teachers that we student nurses care about the well being of their children.Another aspect I would like to mention is that I was very lucky to work and share with peers that were above all very respectful, responsible, energetic, and friendly. Working with the different publicschools in Hamilton taught me a lot about diversity and how each and every one of us is very different. I was very pleased to volunteer in such multicultural environment.
