REJECT OF THE STUDENTS OF TERESA CALDERON DE LASSO SCHOOL TO LEARN ENGLISH

During seven years Ihave been English Teacher in Teresa Calderon de Lasso School, located in Palmira City. All these years, I have had to fight with the reject and apathy of the students in order to learn English. Ihave tried different methodologies, planned dynamic activities such as an English Festival, tried to follow the syllabus of a text book, also, they have had different opportunities to take Englishclasses in another places with low costs; I have used the available didactic materials in the institution like the tape recorder and the DVD; have tried to create conscience in them, about the importanceand necessity to know English for their academic and professional future; and besides that due to the fact we are native speakers of the second difficult language of the world, it’s very easy for us tolearn any other language; but all these intents have been fruitless. The students are complaining continuously about the difficulty to learn English, for them it’s very boring; some of them affirmthat they don’t need to do it, they appear lazy to work in class, they don’t like to effort their mind, they don’t like to carry out the proposed activities, in spite of my explanations and thestrategies I give them to read and to understand without the use of the dictionary or to translate a text to understand it.
My claim consists of to research all the possible causes of these reject andapathy; in order to propose and to apply the respective solutions, having the necessary support of the Directives and possibly of the Secretary of Education.
