André Gunder Frank sostiene en este, el último capítulo de su libro Re- Orient. Global economy in the Asian Age, que la historia real-mundial al- terna continuamente y ¿cíclicamen- te? según una división imaginaria Occidental/ “Orientalista”. Eneste escrito sumamente provocativo, Frank discute con casi la totalidad de la teoría social occidental y buena parte de la oriental en tanto teorías construidas sobre la base de pers- pectivas etnocéntricas. Contra las tesis del orientalismo afroasiático y de la excepcionalidad europea, Frank argumenta que el desarrollo econó- mico y financiero afroasiático y sus instituciones fueron durantesiglos superiores a los estándares europeos

Abstract
André Gunder Frank states into the last chapter of his book ReOrient. Glo- bal economy in the Asian Age, that the real-world history continuously and (cyclically?) alternates across an imaginary Western/ “Orientalist” divi- sion. In this provocative chapter, Frank disagrees with the majority of the West- ern social theory and most part ofthe oriental as constructed on the basis of ethnocentric perspectives. Against the Afro-asiatic Orientalism and the Euro- pean exceptionality, Frank argues that the Afro-asiatic economic and financial development and its institutions were superior to the European standards for centuries and that the comparative studies do not consider in a substantial manner the global totality and theworld

y que los estudios comparativos en lo sustancial no consideran la tota- lidad global y el sistema económico mundial. Repensar la historia, en los términos propuestos por el autor, im- plica abandonar la concepción según la cual se habrían sucedido a lo largo de ella una serie de modos de produc- ción;implica cuestionar la idea de un corte histórico en torno al 1500, que habría sido seguido por una hegemo- nía europea y luego una occidental sobre el resto del mundo, y dirigir las preguntas hacia la totalidad de la eco- nomía/sistema mundial misma y no sólo a alguna parte de esta, ya sea bri- tánica, europea, occidental y/o ahora del Este asiático.

Rethinking history,into the terms proposed by the author, involves abandoning the conception that it had occurred along a series of modes of production; questioning the idea that it had occurred a historical cut around 1500, that was followed by an European hegemony over the whole world, and then by a Western one; and posing the right questions on the totali- ty of the world economy/system and not only on some partof it, were it British, European, Western, and nowadays from East Asia.
