Abstract
A safe water supply is an aspect of the quality of people’s lives. No quick fixes are available to correct a water quality problem, though many are sold. Proper operation and routine water testing is critical in managingany water supply.
Water quality in Brownsville, TX is 60 on a scale to 100 (higher is better). The two main problems in Brownsville water quality are lead and copper.
Water quality issues are presented in this report : Effects of lack of oxygen in water, Health effects of lead and Health effects of copper
There are alternatives for improving water quality explained in report :
1) protectthe water supply
2) locate and eliminate sources of contamination
3) develop a new water supply
4) treat the water.
Finally, are described ystems that can be used to improve water quality in valley:
Biological systems to improve water
Process of water Restoration System

Comparing with other cities in USA where ppb for lead is less than one like Beaufurt Jasper,SC, where in 2003, Water System Association BJWSA was required totake samples for lead, 90 percent of BJWSA's samples of lead concentration were 1 ppb or less, well below the 15 ppb action level.

2 .0 Effects of Poor Quality in water systems
2.1 Effects of lack of oxygen in water
Oxygen is the most important constituent of water body health.
Without oxygen at the bottom of the water body, anaerobic bacteria (those that live without oxygen)produce acids. These acids not only increase acidity, but also cause a release of phosphorus and nitrogen, from the organic sediment and into the water column.
These same anaerobic bacteria put toxic gases in the water including hydrogen sulfide ,ammonia, carbon dioxide and methane. These gases are all toxic to fish, beneficial bacteria and insects.
Lack of bottom oxygen is the cause of odorsproduced by anaerobic bacteria.
These same anaerobes kill beneficial bacteria and insects that would feed on the bottom organic sediment and biodegrade it into carbon dioxide, water and a tiny amount of inorganic ash.
Lack of oxygen can cause fish kills or prevent fish from feeding on benthic (bottom feeding) insects.
Lack of fish enables disease-hosting...
