B.F. Skinner and Reinforcement
Burrhus Frederic Skinner (March 20, 1904 – August 18, 1990) was an American behaviorist, author, inventor, social philosopher and poet. He was the Edgar PierceProfessor of Psychology at Harvard University from 1958 until his retirement in 1974
B.F. Skinner Biography
* Skinner was born in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. He had a father called William Skinner hewas a lawyer. Once at the liberal Christian school, a teacher tried to assuage his fear of hell that his Grandmother described him, later on he became an atheist.
* With an idea of becoming awriter he first attended to Hamilton College in New York. In his college once he wrote for the school paper, but as an atheist, he was critical of the religious school he attended. He also attendedHarvard
* Skinner received a PhD from Harvard in 1931. He became a chair of the psychology department in the Indiana University from 1946–1947, before returning to Harvard as a tenuredprofessor in 1948.
* In 1936, Skinner married Yvonne Blue. He died on August 18, 1990 of leukemia , and he is buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
ReinforcementReinforcement means, in a psychological way, a stimulus to strength behavior whether being a positive action or negative action. When Skinner thought of reinforcement he tested by giving some kind ofaction to an animal so its behavior would have a change and that it repeated by that action, that experiment refers to us when something change our behavior and we like it that we keep doing it. We canhave a response on our behavior by a positive stimulus these are called: Positive Reinforcement and Negative Reinforcement.
