Knowledge Management, do never forget humans
“It was good to have you with us, where are you going?... to the competence eh?... wait a moment… you know what, you were such a good worker, take theseother 2 million dollars my dear friend” And it happens only because this person is taking out of the company a huge quantity of knowledge, so valuable, so powerful.
Certainly, as we have alreadylearned in this course, Information Technologies are such a big issue to have in consideration when we talk about managing and maximizing the intangible assets of the organizations, however, technologyis not the only one working for the good development of knowledge management efforts in the companies.
First of all it would be important to talk a little bit about what we consider knowledge andmention two types of knowledge because that’s going to be important to get main point, the main idea of this essay. There are two kinds of knowledge: explicit knowledge and tacit knowledge. the first oneis formal knowledge that can be packaged as information and can be found in the documents of an organization, on the other hand, tacit knowledge is personal knowledge embedded in individualexperience and that is shared and exchanged through direct, eye to-eye contact. Tacit knowledge is practical knowledge that is the key to getting things done. Explicit knowledge defines the identity, thecompetencies and the intellectual assets of an organization independently of its employees; thus, it is organizational knowledge “par excellence”, but it can grow and sustain itself only through a richbackground of tacit knowledge.
Well, now that we have been defining some aspects that characterize knowledge, we can easily see the importance that human beings have in the development of good knowledgemanagement programs in the companies. Information technologies are a big part of all this and work really well when dealing with data, information and knowledge, but we cannot let everything to...
