Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston Massachusetts on January 19, 1809; both of his parents were professional actors his parents died before he was 3 three years old. After the death of both of his parents he then was adopted and raised in Richmond, Virginia by John and Frances Allan. <http://www.poets.org/poet.php/prmPID/130>
Poe wassent to England to continue his studies where he spent five years, when he came back to America he was fourteen years old, and attended the William Burke academy where he succeeded in athletics. In 1826, three years later Poe attends Virginia State University by the name ¨Edgar Poe¨. One year later he dropped out of the school and he struggled to get through life for his adoptive parent JohnAllan wouldn’t support him with any monetary sustention. < http://www.poestories.com/timeline.php>
That same year he moved back to Boston where he enlisted the United States Army, and wrote his first poem collection ¨Tamerlane¨ which was published not very long from the time he wrote it. <http://www.poets.org/poet.php/prmPID/130>
Following his army service he was accepted at the UnitedStates military Academy, but he was forced to leave the academy due to financial debt. He then moved to his aunt´s and Cousin Mrs. Maria Clemm and Virginia. Over ten years passed and he brought back to Richmond and he married his cousin Virginia. Poe was known for his good writing, but also by his depression and alcoholism problem which worsened by the death of his wife Virginia by tuberculosis in1847. In 1827 he published his first collection called Tamerlane, followed by his second collection called Al araaf. These collections didn’t have a lot of impact on society and had no important critics. In 1835 he became an editor on the Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond,where he started to publish short stories to magazines like ¨Berenice¨, and ¨Ligeia¨. In 1846 he started to edit a number of literary journals including the Burton´s Gentleman´s magazine, Graham´s magazine in Philadelphia, and Broadway journal in New York. At this point he identified himself as a poet, short story writer and editor. The Raven was one of his first poems and also one of the most remarkable ones. The Raven was published in 1845, in the collection of the Raven and other poems; he gained instant national fame with the publication of this melancholy evocation of lost love. Edgar Allan Poe wrote a variety of short stories that contributed to his fame along the years; three important ones are the Tell Tale Heart, Cask of Amontillado, and the Black Cat.
