This article’s objective is to define the term of Information Technology by determining its evolution in business world and by givendefinition of its functions.

* Definition of Information Technology (IT)

According to this article, we can define the Information Technology like management of computer-based information systems asstrategic value. It is the using and the management of technologies (software, hardware) in corporate and brand’s strategies.

Indeed, today Information Technology is more important than currencyand it became the backbone of the commerce. Introduce this notion at the top of the management’s decision permits Corporate to review supply chains, to be more competitive and to create link betweenbusiness and customers.


Evolution of IT

The management of Information Technologies is growing and it becomes more and more important and efficient. For example, in 1965, less than 5% of thecapital expenditures of American Companies were spend in Information Technologies. In the 1980s, because of the growth of the industry of personal computer, it is rose to 15%, and it reach nearly to50% in the end of the decade. Which represent an evolution of 57,5% . Also according to a study by the US Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis, today the overall World expenditures inInformation Technologies is over $2 trillion a year.

The use of IT has dramatically changed also in the top management. Indeed, today the Chief executives use IT as Strategy value, competitive edgeand digitization of their business models.
