La toxicología es la ciencia que estudia la interacción entre las toxinas ambientales y los sistemas biológicos.
La mayoría de lassustancias químicas en el medio ambiente tienen origen artificial, son sintetizadas por el hombre.

La forma de ingreso de las toxinas al organismo es variada: por inhalación, por vía digestiva o por contacto a través de la piel, e manera involuntaria, voluntaria y ocupacional, en el ambiente de trabajo.
