Hach Orthophosphate Test Kit Instructions

Low-Range Test (0-1mg/L)
1. Insert the Long Path Viewing Adapter into the color comparator.
2. Fill a viewing tube to the top line, whichunderlines “No. 1730,” with sample water. This is the blank.
3. Place this tube in the top left opening of the color comparator.
4. Fill the square mixing bottle to the 20-mL mark with samplewater.
5. Add the contents of one PhosVer® 3 Phosphate Reagent Power Pillow to the bottle.
6. Swirl to mix. Wait eight minutes for full color development. If phosphate is present, ablue-violet color develops. Complete the test and read the result within 10 minutes of the addition of the powder.
7. Fill another viewing tube to the top line, which under lines “No. 1730,” withthe prepared sample.
8. Place the second tube in the top right opening of the color comparator.
9. Hold the comparator with the tube tops pointing toward a light source such as the sky, awindow or lamp. Look through the openings in the front of the comparator. Be careful to not spill samples from unstoppered tubes.
10. Rotate the color disc until the color matches in the twoopenings.
11. Divide by 50 the reading in the scale window to obtain the mg/L phosphate.

Mid-Range Test (0-5mg/L)
1. If the color comparator has the Long Path Viewing Adapter in Place,remove it.
2. Fill a viewing tube to the first (5-mL) line with sample water. This is the blank.
3. Place this tube in the top left opening of the color comparator.
4. Rinse theplastic dropper several times with the sample water. If the sample is turbid, see instructions under Sample Preparation for Testing Boiler Water or Other Turbid Waters.
5. Fill the dropper to thefirst (0.5 mL) mark with the sample water. Put this water in the second viewing tube.
6. Add deionized water to the first (5-mL) line on the second tube.
