Japan is an archipelago estratovolcánico composed of 374,744 km ² of islands and 3091 km ² of water and made up more than six thousand islands extending along the Asian coast east of the Pacific Ocean and the islands of Ryukyu, Izu and Ogasawara. [36] the country is located in northeast China and Taiwan (separated by the east China Sea), slightly east of Korea (separated by the sea Japan) and southern Siberia, Russia. Japan is the third largest economy in the world, after the United States and China, around $ 4.5 trillion in terms of nominal GDP and third after the United States and China in terms of purchasing power . Its GDP per hourworked is the 18th highest in the world since 2006.
Banking, insurance, real estate, retail, transport and telecommunications are the main industries. It has a large industrial capacity and is home to some of the biggest, best and most technologically advanced producers of motor vehicles, electronic equipment, machine tools, steel and nonferrous metals, ships, chemicals, textiles and processedfoods. The building has long been one of the largest industries, with the help of public contracts in the civilian sector by billions of dollars. Has high economic freedom, cooperation between government and industry, the emphasis on science and technology, and a strong work ethic have contributed to economic growth. Notable features of the economy of this country, including a strong unity betweenproducers, manufacturers and distributors, meeting in groups known as keiretsu and the relatively low international competition in domestic markets. There are various forms of work, such as the guarantee of lifetime employment in large corporations.

Japan is currently suffering from a decline in its birthrate (1.3 children per woman), caused among other reasons for the high cost of raising and educating a child. If to this is added the fact that it holds the third position in the world's oldest population (82.07 years, the combination of fewer births over deaths later, creating concerns about the viability of its system pension and future availability of sufficient labor. In 2005 for the firsttime the number of Japanese declined because there were fewer births than deaths.
Shoshika is a recently coined word (1990), whose translation could be "drop in the number of children" and that currently is used to refer to this lack of growing infants in Japanese society.
In response to this problem, the government has raised the retirement age, but is expected in the coming decades iscontinuing population decline. In addition, in 1999 strengthened the laws against discrimination of women at work. In turn, launched three projects: Angel Plan, New Plan Angel and another proposal, all aimed at helping women to work and be mothers at a time. But these measures clash with the strong tradition governing Japanese society.
