May 31, World Day without snuff
The World Health Organization (WHO) appointed on May 31 since 1987, global day without snuff.
The Snuff has become a public health problem in our society, due to the harmful effects it has on the quality of life and longevity, occurs in people who use it, the smokers and those not to be, live in an environment permeated by smoke snuff, becoming passivesmokers.
The Ministry of Health warns that the number of smokers in the country increased from 9 million in 1998 to 19 million in 2010, one in four city dwellers consume snuff, and one in three lives exposed inadvertently to smoke cigarette.
According to WHO since 2003, the mortality associated with smoking snare in 13 000 500 people every day and based on current trends, the numbers will increaseto 10 million deaths annually between 2020 and 2030.
By 2020, WHO estimated that snuff will cause more deaths worldwide than HIV, TB, maternal mortality, vehicle accidents, suicide and homicide.
Currently considered the second leading cause of death and causing nearly 5 million deaths worldwide every 7 seconds and a death occurs.
In Nayarit were recorded in 2010, 85 deaths from LungCancer and Lung Disease, Chronic Obstructive were 239. So far in 2011 there have been 22 deaths and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD and emphysema) are 58.
In Mexico, tobacco-related diseases cause 60 000 deaths a year, ie 165 to die daily due to the addiction.
Smoking is an important factor for cancer of various kinds, such as lung, breast, cervical and conditions threatening lifeincluding heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
People should know that this is a public health problem of first magnitude. This is not an issue of tolerance or education but a health problem, since smoking is a learned behavior, a fact that usually happens in adolescence, so it should intervene to prevent our young people lose on average 15 years of life by consumingsnuff.
The influence of fashion, advertising and social mores and the imitation that makes the children of smoking parents are the main causes that border young people start the addiction of snuff.
Many young people start smoking without identifying the snuff or as a drug, or as an injury factor to consider their health as only a social and legal consumption, also because they feel healthy.The concern is that the adolescent begins with high-risk habit at a time when it should potentiate their chances of development and production.
Nicotine is a highly addictive substance and experimentation during childhood and adolescence can easily lead to a lifetime of dependence snuff.
The effect of smoking on mortality is first detected in the offering of middle age, half the deaths fromsnuff has occurred in the population aged 35 to 69 years and lead to reduced life expectancy from 20 to 25 years. The other half of the snuff deaths occur after age 70.
The direct and indirect exposure of snuff smoke is associated with a significant increase in risk of lung cancer, chronic obstructive Epoc cardiac and systemic diseases.
Among the most significant impacts excel premature deathand increased costs of care for conditions associated with this addiction.
In this regard the Ministry of Health calls for accountability to parents and society support, emphasizing the negative health consequences from exposure to smoke, snuff, raising awareness about the risks of smoking and respect for nonsmokers and in this way reduce the number of preventable deaths and diseases caused bythe use of snuff.
