Difference between Romanesque and
Traditionally architectural styles represent the evolution or involution of human thought and construction techniques. Perhaps two of the styles where you can seebetter these characteristics are the Romanesque and Renaissance style. Although both styles are almost consecutive chronologically and only the Gothic is among them, these stand out for theircontrast. They developed in different times and under different conditions. They had different spiritual concepts and opinion about predecessors’ cultures and styles. Also they had different techniques andbuilding systems and they were different from each other in the use of some materials.
The first factor in that both styles differ is about when and how they emerged. Although both were born inEurope, Romanesque style developed during the Middle Ages from the XI-XII centuries. This style started from the fall of the Western Roman Empire until the year 1453 when Eastern Roman Empire fell. In thisperiod the Catholic Church was development and fortified influencing in the development of religious architecture and fortresses. Meanwhile Renaissance began with the modern age and it developedduring the XV-XVI centuries. This style emerged with the creation of the division of Christianity into Catholic and Protestant, with the consequent weakening of the Catholic Church. This weakening alloweda boom in construction of Palacio, villas and public buildings, town halls, auctions, bridges, etc.
The second major difference between these styles could be the concepts that shaped and guided bothstyles. For example each style had different opinions about the predecessors classic styles such as Greek and Roman. During the development of Romanesque classic styles were forgotten and wereconsidered pagan and sinful nature unsuitable for Christianity.
