Various supermarket chains operate in the city, such as, H-E-B, Commercial Mexicana, Costco, Walmex (Wal-mart, Sam's Club, Superama, Vips, Bodega aurrera, y Suburbia),Chedraui, Gigante, Home Depot, to mention a few.
The principal commercial centers of the city are Plaza Tangamanga, Plaza el Dorado, Plaza Sendero, Plaza Sanborns San Luis.
In the city, various banksalso operate, such as, BBVA Bancomer, Banamex, HSBC, Banorte, Santander-Serfin, Scotiabank-Inverlat, and Banregio.
The city's transportation consists of a public system based on urban buses that movethroughout the metropolitan area. Besides the public transportation, the city contains one of the highest concentrations of Taxis. Ponciano Arriaga International Airport is the city's main airwaypoint. It is located around 17 km from the city's downtown, and it is the state's most important airway terminal
The current governor is Fernando Toranzo (2009–2015) of the PRI party (PartidoRevolucionario Institucional)
Population According to the data yielded the II Population and Housing Census conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) with census date of 12 June2010, the state of San Luis Potosi until that year had a total of 2 585 518 inhabitants, of that number, 1,260,366 were men and 1,325,152 were women. In the Media region kept the tradition of singing and dancing during the holidays so-called "Stanzas and bellow," which recitesatirical verses guitar and violin accompanied by revelry, alternating with the habit of dancing till you drop.
