The senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. Democratic Presidential candidate was accused of committing plagiarism as a student in his first year at Syracuse University Law School.

According to the people familiar with the senator, he was called before the disciplinary body at the law school during his firstyear because of charges that he had committed plagiarism on a paper. Mr. Biden entered the Law School in 1965 and then graduated in 1968.

An academic official said that Biden had been foundguilty of plagiarism, and that he promised not to repeat the offence. The official said this was what made Joseph R. Biden Jr. stay in the law school.
One of the academic officials said that Bidenasked for his law school records and obtained them several weeks after and he also requested after that to the Law School not to distribute them until he had a chance to see what their contents were.The Vice-president Dan Forbush, said in public at the university, that Joseph R. Biden Jr. was actually in touch with the law school but he also said that he could not tell why he called. Hewould neither confirm nor deny the accusations and reports of the plagiarism charges, as he said it wasn’t possible to release that kind of information without the permission of the defendant, theSenator Biden.

Two of Biden's law school professors, said that they had no idea of any of those charges.
