Financial Capital
Overview
• There is no secret for raising financial
capital
• Requires effective articulation of your
vision and how you will achieve it
• Typically communicated through a
compelling business plan and investor
presentation
Hello and welcome to our discussion on
keys to raising financial capital.
I'd like to start by letting you know, that there's not a secret to raising
financial capital, it certainly requires
an effective articulation of your vision,
how you'll achieve that, and how you'll
build your business.
And what you do, to effectively
communicate the path that you see, and how
you can materialize it.
This is typically communicated through the
business plan and the investor
presentation, and so that will be the
focus of what we're doing in the coming
days.
Of evaluating and building the financial
statements, as they would fit within the
business plan and the investor
presentation.
No single “right” format for investor
presentations
• Although they tend to cover the same
topics
• Always check to see if there is a
preferred format for a given audience(competition, grants, investors, etc.)
So with regards to the investor
presentation, there's no single right
format.
And in that way, we certainly want to
understand from our audiences what their
expectations are.
If they do have certain norms, or
templates, or guidelines, we should follow
those.
1. Introduction
− Define the company/business in a single declarativesentence
2. Opportunity/Problem
– Describe the problem/opportunity of the customer
– Outline how the customer addresses the issue today
3. Your Solution
– Demonstrate your company’s value proposition to
make the customer’s life better (your product/service)
– Provide use cases (scenario of how your product or
service will be used by customers)
Sample investor presentation format
Butthere are certain elements that are
common within many investor presentation's
formats, there's some introduction of the
company or business, there's a description
of the problem or opportunity, and there
is a definition of your solution, how it
fits within the market.
You may provide some use cases, or
scenarios, or stories of how you contured,
services is used.
So inthat way, it does encompass many of
the same elements that you would have
within the business plan.
But the format is delivered, typically in
person, typically orally, with perhaps
some presentation slides or videos or
other things to supplement, the
discussion.
4. Market Analysis
– Identify the current and expected customers
– 4Ps
5. Competitive Advantage
– Listcompetitors
– List your competitive advantages
Sample investor presentation format
You'll also have, many details in the
market analysis, including the four Ps, a
discuss of your competitors, both planned
and expected.
6. Team
– Founders and management
– Board of advisors
7. Financials
– Abbreviated income statement for at 3-5 years
– Funds requested, timeline, and proposeduse
8. Closing
– Exciting summary slide of the investment
opportunity
Sample investor presentation format
You'll talk about your team, the founding
team as well as advisors, and you'll talk
about financials, typically of three to
five years.
And this will includ a discussion of what
funding you need, for what purpose, on
what timeline and what the expected
outcomes ofthat are.
And you'll have a closing to your
presentation as well, that's somewhat
summative of what's been discussed.
So a sample template, for what you may see
within an investor presentation and as for
the financials as illustrated in here.
Your top line are your revenues, and then
within that, you'll highlight specific
product lines or product categories, that...
