Christmas is for many the best time to New York. During this time,
the city became the capital of the holidays. Your events and
customs areknown worldwide as the "Radio City Christmas
Spectacular," the "Shopping Week" with spectacularly
decorated shops, the ignition of the giant tree at Rockefeller
Center or the New Year in TimesSquare.

The Thanksgiving's Day or Thanksgiving Day, is celebrated on
the fourth Thursday of November. This national holiday was
instituted in 1789 in memory of the first pilgrims who
arrived in thecountry. According to legend, a group of
English fled their Protestant religion by heading to the
Americas aboard a ship called the Mayflower. Those who
survived after 65 days of travel, reachedthe shores of
Plymouth on November 21, 1620 where they were received
by the Indians who welcomed them and helped to withstand
winter. The English took part in next year's crop, which was
veryprosperous and in gratitude, held a party in which the
Indians cooked turkeys.
At Thanksgiving, families gather to eat the traditional stuffed
turkey and desserts like pecan pie and pumpkin. During themorning, floats and large dolls shaped balloons, parade
along Seventh Avenue from 77th Street until Macy's on 34th
Street, in the "Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade".

By following the Thanksgivingday, known as the "black Friday,"
the lights, the decorations in the shops, Santa Claus and
Christmas decorations, flood the city. People were thrown
into the street and crowd the stores for theChristmas gifts.
The shops and department stores have been prepared for
this event, competing for the best decoration and increasing
the number of employees (up to 200 at FAO Schwarz).
TraditionalChristmas stamp is the building of the Cartier
store, with its giant toy soldiers on balconies and a huge red
bow around the entire facade.
