Sexually Transmitted Diseases
a) Virus:i. Genital herpes: transmitted through intimate contact with the mucous-covered linings of the mouth or the vagina or the genital skin. For the first 3 to 7 days there are no symptoms but lateran outbreak occurs and a blister is formed. The prevention would be to use barrier methods like condoms. For someone with herpes antiviral medications can be used, but the only way to completely avoidthis would be to refrain from all genital contact with somebody else.
b) Bacteria:
ii. Chlamydia: Is a bacterial infection that is curable, is transmitted during vaginal, oral, or analsexual contact with an infected partner. This is the most wide spread sexual infection in the USA. Around 70% of the people who have the infection don’t have any symptoms, which is why it’s called‘silent’ disease. But those who do have them may suffer from abnormal discharge of mucus or pus from vagina or penis or have pain while urinating. Ways of prevention would be abstain from sexual contact or tobe in a relationship with a partner who is known to not be infected. The use of condoms properly is also a method, and lastly it is recommendable to have an annual screening.
c) Fungi:iii. Vaginal yeast infection: Is fungi formed in the vagina characterized by the inflammation of the vagina and vulva.
