Today there is a big discussion about if same-sex couples should be or should not be allowed to adopt, many people say that same-sex couples should not be allowed toadopt, because it is against the traditional nuclear family, and it could affect the normal growth of a child. However, a lot of heterosexual marriages are not stable enough, and it is normal to seechildren raised by a single mum or a single dad. On the other hand, some same-sex a couple are more stable than a many “traditional couples”, and nowadays is very common to find same-sex couples wholearound the world, even in many countries the same-sex marriages are allowed. Also plenty of people say that the permission to same-sex couples to adopt is a good idea, because it will help to reduce therates of orphans or homeless children, and same-sex couples would give them a better life.
Same-sex couples could be in many times more stable than a lot of heterosexual couples. Because, manyhomosexual people do not tend to have aggressive behavior or problems with the alcohol, as it happens in many heterosexual homes, where the husband when is drunk have aggressive behavior against his wifeor his sons. Studies about this topic have shown that just over the 16% or one of six American couples experienced physical assault during 1985 (Straw and Grelles, 1992). The most common cause ofviolence in the family is the alcohol. In many homes children who have witnessed abuse to her mother often suffer some psychological problems like: Low self-esteem, depression, stress, poor impulse,powerlessness, also they are in high risk for alcohol and drugs use, sexual acting out, pregnancy, isolation and suicide (Jafte Wolilfe And Wilson, children of battered women; 1990, pp 28-29).
