Definition
A tense that allows you todescribe something that happened in the past.
Use
The Simple Past, is used for past actions that happened either at a specific time, which can either be given by a timephrase (yesterday, last year, etc.) or understood from the context.

Spelling rules
When the verbs finish with:
e- Only add d
Consonant-vowel-consonant- Only duplicate the last consonant and add edWhen the verb finish with consonant + Y change for i and add ed
And the other verbs Only add ed as general rule
