His mother is Brenda preferably sisters, Ellie, May Belle and Joyce Ann, while his father works in Washington DC and spend little timewith their children. May Belle, the second youngest sister, Jess loves and admires him. Leslie Burke is an only child who moves from Arlington to the area where Jess lives. His parents, both writers,are quite wealthy.Jess and Leslie soon become good friends. Jess shares his love of drawing with Leslie, and Leslie shares with him his love to invent stories. With this new friendship, the twochildren create an imaginary kingdom in the woods near their homes, which are only accessible by swinging a rope over a stream. They created the imaginary kingdom of Terabithia and named themselves king andqueen, and spend every day there after school. In Terabithia, are able to face their fears in the real world, such as Janice Avery abusona.Leslie gives Jess a sketchbook and a box of paints for hisbirthday and Jess gives Leslie a dog she calls Prince Terrien or "PT" for short, because Jesus knew that Leslie said he had always wanted a dog. They consider P.T. as the Royal Guard, Prince ofTerabithia and the court jester.Jess is in love with his young music teacher, Miss Edmunds, and would do anything to be with her. The drama happens when Jess accompanies Miss Edmunds to the National Galleryof Art in Washington, and Leslie goes to Terabithia alone. The rope breaks while crossing the stream, increased due to the rains. Although a good swimmer, Leslie falls into the river and drowns....
