The Hidroaysen Company intends to build five mega hydroelectric facilities in the basins of Baker and Pascua rivers in Chilean Patagonia, destroying the banks of its reservoirs, theoriginal ecosystem, rich fauna and local culture. Power lines should go from Aysén to Santiago, a distance of more than 2000 km, to then take energy for mining 1000 km further north, flattening thelandscape and damaging existing jungle and virgin forests.
The company, with its economic power, is holding a terror campaign through the media, falsely claiming that the alternative to these plantsis darkness.
I’m against Hidroaysen, because I believe that while there are alternative energies compatible with conservation of nature, we don’t have an alternative planet.
In this report will havearguments to against and support.
How will do HidroAysén?:
HidroAysén is a project that contemplates the construction and operation of five hydroelectric power plants, two in Baker River andthree in Pascua River, located in Aysen Region, in the south of Chile.
The complex would have an installed capacity of 2,750 MW and a capacity of 18,430 GWh of average annual energy. The investment isestimated at US$ 3.2 billion, becoming the most important energetic project studied in the country so far. According to the Hidroaysen administration, by 2020 the project could cover 21% of the CentralInterconnected System (SIC) demand. The construction of the project contemplates one transmission line which will transport the energy from the Aysen region to Santiago, to be injected to the SICthrough a continuous high-voltage direct current line which has one submarine section between the cities of Chaitén and Puerto Montt.
Some arguments to support:
-Clean and renewable energy: Thisenergy is extremely natural and very clean not generate toxic wastes or other. It deals in 8 of 12 of the greenest countries ranked worldwide.
-Energy-sustainable: HidroAysén Project is a sustainable...
