SOCCER
Soccer is also known, as Association football is a game played by two teams of 11 players. A
game that can be enjoyed by almost anyone of any age. The team that wins the coin tossmay choose to
kick off or defend the goal of its choice. All players must be on their own half of the field before the
kickoff takes place. Defensive players must be outside the center circle,at least ten yards away from
the ball, for the kickoff.
According to a survey conducted by FIFA in 2000 through 2010, approximately 270 million
people worldwide are actively involved infootball, including players, umpires and executives. Of
these, 265 million regularly play football professionally, semi-professional or amateur, considering
both men, women, youth and children. Thisfigure represents about 4% of the population. Each team
consists of a maximum of eleven players (excluding substitutes), one of whom must be the goalkeeper.
Competition rules may state aminimum number of players required to constitute a team. Goalkeepers
are the only players allowed to play the ball with their hands or arms, provided they do so within the
penalty area in front oftheir own goal. Though there are a variety of positions in which the outfield
(non-goalkeeper) players are strategically placed by a coach, these positions are not defined or required
by the Laws.The basic equipment or kit players are required to wear includes a shirt, shorts, socks,
footwear and adequate shin guards. Headgear is not a required piece of basic equipment, but players
todaymay choose to wear it to protect themselves from head injury. Players are forbidden to wear or
use anything that is dangerous to themselves or another player, such as jewellery's or watches. Thegoalkeeper must wear clothing that is easily distinguishable from that worn by the other players and the
match officials.
