Social studies study guide
Thefollowing are the topics you will need to study:
-Anthropology vs. Archeology: Know the basic features of each, and know the differences and similarities of each.
* Know the first discoveries maderegarding humans. (Where were these discoveries made, what were they) Be able to explain why it took people so long to make these discoveries (technology, $, etc.)
-Neolithic Revolution, or theNew Stone Age: Understand why this was such a gigantic impact on humanity.
* How did people live before the Neolithic Revolution? (Think: nomads, tools, food, hunters & gatherers, small groups,small population)
* The Neolithic Revolution opened the doors for the first civilizations to be established. Why?
-First civilizations: What are the 8 basic features of civilizations?
* Sumer:What was its importance?
* What did the first civilizations look like? (Size, role of government, etc)
* City, city-state, empire (All types of civilizations but with major differences)-The first Mesopotamian and Middle Eastern Empires: What were they, and when did they happen?
* Know the order of the 4 major Mesopotamian Empires we discussed, and be able to identify their rulers.(For example, we know that Hammurabi came before Nebuchadnezzar)
* What were the major reasons why these empires declined?
* Understand the gicantic impact of the Persians. Understand whythe empire didn’t last long.
-Ancient Egypt and Judaism: Understand the correlation between these two topics.
* Old vs Middle vs New Kingdoms: What were the characteristics of each?
*Understand how social classes were organized in Anciet Egypt.
* Provide a short description about the history of Judaism (history of exile)
-Ancient India: Geography, first civilizations, government...
