La dependencia económica está relacionada con el subdesarrollo, se manifiesta en el sostenimiento de una estructura de producción industrialamparada bajo leyes contributivas de una potencia económica, cuya relación de comercio exterior es casi exclusivo La dependencia económica, históricamente se puede ver desde la época colonial y se puede comprobar actualmente por la relación con el mercado mundial.
