The setting in the book is in 1942 in a village called Lidice in Czechoslovakia. As you know at that time was the second war and the Nazis had taken Czechoslovakia. So the storybegins by telling the story of a girl named Milada, she had a normal life with a beautiful family and a best friend named Terezie. She was planning her birthday (her eleventh birthday), she was veryexcited. So the day of her birthday came, she received a telescope as gift from her father, because she loved o see the stars. Also reached her best friends, Terezie, Zelenka and Hana and a classmate,Ruzha (Milada didn’t like her) A few days later, the Nazis came to their house, taking all the family (when the soldiers take the family Babichka (grandmother) give her a pin and said to herremember who you are. Remember where are you from, always) but then they separated men from women so her father and Jaroslav were taken somewhere. Milada, her mother, grandmother and Anechka with the restof women habitants of Lidice where taken to a school building. There some soldiers take Milada and began to do a bunch of tests to her. There were strange test, for see if Milada have straight blondhair, perfect nose size, blue eyes. She passed all the tests and became Aryan ideal. She is sent to a Lebensborn center along with Ruzha and Polish girls. There they renamed she Eva and Ruzha isrenamed Franziska. The camp is horrible and there they made the girls forget about their past, and she works very hard to remember her name Milada. She spends years in this kind of school, their she met agirl named, Leisel, who became Eva best friend, her real name was Katarzyna. Someday the “TEACHER” judging the girls sufficiently trained, said that they were be adopted by Nazis family. Eva wasadopted by a German family.
