Spain is one of the most important countries in Europe.
Spain is located in southwestern Europe and comprises about 84 percent of the Iberian Peninsula, its total area is 504,782 km2 of which499,542 km2 is land and 5,240 km2 is water.
Spain is bounded to the north by the Bay of Biscay, France, and Andorra; to the east by the Mediterranean Sea; on the south by the Mediterranean Sea andthe Atlantic Ocean; and on the west by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean.
Spain comprises 50 provinces in 17 autonomous regions: Andalusia, Aragón, Asturias, Balearic Islands, Basque Country (PaísVasco), Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castile-La Mancha, Castile-León, Catalonia, Extremadura, Galicia, La Rioja, Madrid, Murcia, Navarra, and Valencia.
Spain has a population of 44 million, Madrid have3,093,000 millions of people and Barcelona 1,583,256, 14% are 1-14 years, 68% are 15-64 years, and 17% are 65 and over. 3.7 million Immigrants now account for 8.4% of the total population.
Average lifeexpectancy for men is 79 and 82 for women.
Talking about religion over 97% of the population is Roman Catholic the remainder consisting of small communities of Protestants, Jews, and Muslims.
Asmany people know most of the people of Spain speak Castilian Spanish though with a great variety of accents. Catalan is spoken in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Valencia region, Gallego isspoken in Galicia and Basque is spoken in the Basque country.
Madrid is the capital and largest city in Spain, the population of the city is 3.3 million, the city is located on the Manzanares River inthe centre of both, the country and the Community of Madrid. Madird has a considerable number of Catholic churches; some of them are between the most important Spanish religious artworks. Madrid is thehome of FC Real Madird, who plays their home games at the Santiago Bernabeu, their hometown rivals, Atletico de Madrid are also well supported in the city.
