St. Patrick´s Day.
March 17 marks the day of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. St. Patrick was born in 387 in Kilpatrick, near Dumbarton, in Scotland. His father was an officer in theRoman army. Irish pirates captured the 16-year old Patrick and sold him into slavery. He spent six years in Ireland, where he learned the Celtic language. He managed to escape and went to France toprepare for the monastic life, and was ordained priest. When he was 46 years old he decided to return to Ireland to evangelize their inhabitants. And there he remained for almost three decades, until hisdeath on March 17 of the year 461.
Christian tradition says that Patrick explained the mystery of the Holy Trinity using a three-leaf clover. So that day has been established as customary wear ashamrock on his feast day celebration. It is also usual green dress and even dyed with this color beer in honor of Ireland, also nicknamed the "Emerald Isle".
El 17 de marzo se celebra el día de sanPatricio, patrón de Irlanda. San Patricio nació en el 387 en Kilpatrick, cerca de Dumbarton, en Escocia. Su padre era oficial del ejército romano. Piratas irlandeses tomaron prisionero al joven Patricio de16 años y lo vendieron como esclavo. Pasó seis años en Irlanda, donde aprendió a hablar el idioma celta. Consiguió fugarse y se marchó a Francia para prepararse para la vida monástica, y se ordenósacerdote. Cuando contaba con 46 años de edad decidió volver a Irlanda para evangelizar a sus habitantes. Y allí permaneció casi tres décadas, hasta su muerte el 17 de marzo del año 461.

Unatradición cristiana dice que Patricio explicaba el misterio de la Santísima Trinidad usando un trébol de tres hojas. Por eso ese día se ha instaurado como costumbre llevar un trébol en la celebración de sufestividad. También es habitual vestirse de color verde e incluso teñir con este color la cerveza en honor a Irlanda, también apodada la "Isla Esmeralda".
