Should someone have changed to try to become more popular? In the book "Stargirl", written by Jerry Spinelli, the protagonist whose name is Susan Caraway, has a trouble with the student body becauseof her personality. She should not have change her personality just because the other guys did not like her identity. First of all, Stargirl started to be popular for her personality and she did notneed to be someone else. Fist, she was popular by herself. "Girl liked her. Boys liked her. And- most remarkable- the attention came from all kinds of kids: shy mice and princesses, jocks and eggheads"(38). When she was herself, at the beginning all the people believe she was a little strange, but then they started to imitate her, they started to like her. Secondly, at the end the people like heragain only because of her personality, because she still being herself. "Within seconds a long line was snaking across the dance floor. Stargirl led the way. And suddenly it was December again, andshe had the school in her spell" (171). She did not need to appear someone else, she still being herself and the student body began to talk to her again, as in the past. In conclusion, people shouldchange their the way of being only to be popular, the most easy way to make friends is by being oneself. The second argument is that not everyone could like the way of how is someone. First, if a personis popular, not everyone would be agree with his/her personality. "Shortly after, as the Serenaders gratefully played 'stardust', Hillary Kimble walked up to Stargirl and said, 'You ruin everything'.And she slapped her" (175). Not always someone can please everybody. Secondly, personality change does not mean that other people will forget the past personality. "There was no confetti, no kazoos.Nothing cheered, not even mockingbird" (160). Not just because she replaced her personality for 'Susan' means the student body could forgive her, forget her last personality and what she did....
