Sustainability & Corporate Responsibility


“Sustainability is an essentially vague concept, and it would be wrong to think of it as being precise, oreven capable of being made precise” as R.B. Solow says, an awakening to a truth or a reality for most people, it is about our obligation to the future.
We do not know what could happen in the future,maybe it is useless to try to spare our sources of energy such as oil now because we never know if fifty years from now we will still need it, or if new technologies will require anothernon-polluting source of energy like wind! Or maybe engineers will discover a way to absorb and recycle the pollution that is spread in the air! The point is that we have to do the best we can just in case it doesnot happen and the situation becomes really bad - the same way we would follow the emergency evacuation plan in case of fire if we hear the alarm, we do not know for sure that there IS a fire, butas long as there might be one, we act this way. As a precaution.

UNESCO states that a human being should leave earth as he found it when he was born: could the theory of sustainability andenvironmentalism be a barrier to the natural evolution of men?
No because almost everything is “fungible” we are not asked to stop everything we are doing but to change our goods for more renewable ones,substitute our habits for more sustainable and environment-friendly ones. “There is no specific object that the goal of sustainability, the obligation of sustainability, requires us to leave untouched”states R.B. Solow, and if we ever use up a capital asset human beings need, we are supposed to replace it with another asset which has the same “value” on earth-as desalinated sea water would replacespring water.

What changes could be done in our policies that could help preserving our planet giving the population growth?
