My study group:


Description of Course: This course is an introduction to the study of literature from Spain and Latin America. We will read the primary material in Spanish, engaging readings from different literary periods and the genres of narration, poetry, drama, and essay. Beyond studying the historic and socialcontext of the particular works, we will also seek to understand how each piece fits into its literary time period in terms of style and generic construction.

Prerequisites: While it is suggested that the student takes Spanish 381 (advanced grammar and composition) or its equivalent before taking Spanish 351, there is currently no pre-requisite beyond successful completion of Spanish 204 orpermission from the instructor.

Course Objectives:
- Introduce students to the most important authors from Hispanic countries.
- Introduce different literary styles and the importance of genre construction
- Trace the development of literary movements within the countries studied and the Hispanic community as a whole.
