Introduction

1. Vocabulary for different kinds of learners Children may learn information through different channels whenthey first meet it. Visual learners learn well if they see things. They may, for example, like to see pictures, objects and videos in class. Auditory learners learn well if they hear things. They maylike to listen to stories or to the teacher explaining instructions. Kinaesthetic learners learn well if they do things. They may perhaps like acting dialogues, action songs, or making things in class.Children will use different channels at different times, but most are stronger in one or two channels. 2. Vocabulary for different kinds of activities In information-gap activities pairs or groups ofchildren have different information. They share this information so that they can help each other to solve a problem. In competitive activities, children try to do something better or more quicklythan other children. Some children may like competition, but others may prefer cooperative activities. In cooperative activities, children help each other to do an activity. Cooperative activities canhelp children to develop a positive attitude to English and to other children in their class. 3. Embedded activities

Embedded activities give children the chance to learn indirectly. For example,if you hide a toy in the classroom, and ask children to guess where it is, children will need to ask questions like “Is it under the desk?”, “Is it behind the door?” and so on. They need to use...
