Culture of Hawaii
It is the only U.S. state where coffee is harvested. The first colonization of Hawaii came from islands in the South Pacific, probably from the Marquesas. By conquering Hawaii, these settlers-of-foreign origin became "Hawaiian." For about 800 years, these people lived in times in peace and war times, as they were expanding their colonial territories by the eight main islands. Inthis period, the Hawaiian people developed a complex social structure based on a caste system, governed by a wide range of religious taboos and social type, known as "kapu system."
There are different versions of the first Europeans to arrive in Hawaii. The most frequent and documented is that the English explorer James Cook was the first to arrive in 1778. However, according to some historians,it is possible that members of the Spanish expedition of Ruy Lopez de Villalobos they did two centuries ago, in 1555.2 There Spanish maps of the time showing some islands in the latitude of Hawaii, but 10 degrees in length further east. In the manuscript, the Island of Maui appears as "The Wretched" and the island of Hawaii appears as "La Mesa". Other islands, much like Kahoolawe, Lanai, Molokaiand appear with the name of 'The Monks' .3

When Cook arrived in Hawaii by chance in the eighteenth century, King Kamehameha I, who would go down in history with the name of Kamehameha the Great, had begun its gradual rise to power. After a series of battles that ended in 1795 and the assignment Pacificisland of Kauai in 1810, the Hawaiian Islands were united for the first time under a single ruler, who died in 1819. Kamehameha I founded the House of Kamehameha, the dynasty until 1872.
The death of King Kamehameha V, single and without naming an heir, led to the holding of a referendum that gave the election to King Lunalilo against Kalakaua. Finally, the power would end up in the hands of Kalakauahouse, after the death of Lunalilo, and a hotly contested election and plagued by accusations of fraud in 1874 between Kalakaua and Emma (with riots and the arrival of U.S. troops and the UK to keep the peace), leaving the throne held by Kalakaua.
King Kalakaua managed to stay in power until his death in 1891. His sister, Queen Liliuokalani, succeeded him on the throne until he was overthrown by acoup and replaced by a provisional government and then by a republic. During the monarchical and republican, Hawaii's economy itself grew from an isolated state to the one that was part of the global free market, producing and exporting more than two hundred thousand tons of sugar a year. In 1898, Hawaii was annexed to the United States of America, gaining statehood in 1959.
The Hawaiian Islandswere named in gratitude to John Montagu, Fourth Earl of Sandwich, named Sandwich Islands by Captain James Cook, on January 18, 1778. John Montagu largely supported the exploration of the Pacific, led by James Cook, giving the money to build four ships, with which he found not only the Sandwich Islands, but Montagu Island, now part of the United Kingdom. The name [[Hawaiian Islands was first usedin the nineteenth century, and they became a sovereign state until 1898, when the United States managed to annex that territory, abolishing the Hawaiian monarchy and imposing a US-style constitution.
In 1941, on the island of Oahu, the port complex and military base Pearl Harbor was under attack by Japan, before the economic blockade that the U.S. was exerting. This provoked the activeparticipation of the United States in World War II. Hawaii became official State of the United States on August 21, 1959.
