FINISH DESIGNATIONS
This SMI is a reference document, as a duplicate of Motor Technologies Material Specification F-002, which is the controlling document. The purpose of thisspecification is to define the finish designations used on motors and generators, applicable to component parts or final coat. Motor Technologies will not use paint that contains nitrocellulose. Underwriter's Laboratories (UL) does not permit nitrocellulose paint on explosion proof motors. Paints will not contain silicones. This insures good recoatability. Finishes are designated by adesignation-key-letter. This designation may appear as a suffix to the part number or it may appear as a final paint instruction. The codes for these letter designations are shown in the accompanying table. When a paint code is assigned to a component using powder paint, the paint should be applied to the outside of the component part. When it is assigned to a part using spray or wet paint, it should be applied tothe inside of the component part. If the code includes the letters “IS”, the paint should be applied to both the inside and outside of the component part. Ex: Paint code “CK” (white powder paint) – Apply to outside of part. Paint code “HJ” (white epoxy spray paint) – Apply to inside of part. Paint code “HJ-IS” (white epoxy spray paint) – Apply to inside and outside of part. When painting machinedendbells, do not get overspray in machined bearing bores.
