LAB REPORT #2

The concentration of a chemical solution refers to the amount of solute that is dissolved in a solvent. We normally think of a solute as a solid that is added to a solvent (e.g.,adding table salt to water), but the solute could just as easily exist in another phase. For example, if we add a small amount of ethanol to water, then the ethanol is the solute and the water is thesolvent. If we add a smaller amount of water to a larger amount of ethanol, then the water could be the solute!

Materials
* Test Tube Rack with 10 test tubes
* 2 Mohr pipettes (1of 5 ml and 1 of 10 ml)
* 1 suction bulb
* 1 400 ml beaker filled with bottle water

Procedure
1. Label six test tubes with numbers 1 through 6. Measure 9.0 mL of bottle water intoeach of the test tubes.
2. Fill a 50 ml beaker with concentrates color liquid. This concentrated will be call 1/1, one part per one.
3. Into test tube #1, accurately measure 1.0 mL with a Mohrpipette of concentrated colored liquid and stir. This concentration is 1/10, one per ten.
4. Carefully measure 1.0 mL of test tube #1 and stir to test tube #2. This concentration is 1/100, one partper hundred.
5. Continue until you have stirred 1.0 mL of test tube #5 into test tube #6. The last test tube has a concentration of one part per million.

Questions
1. At whichconcentration could you no longer detect the purple tang coloring with your eyes?
In the 5th test tube container
2. Do you think our senses are accurate enough to determine concentration? Explain why
Nobecause the tang was still in the water only that in a small proportion and we couldn’t see it with our eyes but if we use a special machine we would be able to detect the tang.
3. Give an...
