Tea with Mussolini is a movie directed by Franco Zeffirelli. The movie was released in the year 1996. Tea with Mussolini is a movie about the directors (Franco Zeffirelli) lifewhen he was an Italian boy. It depicts his life as an Italian boy, but in a circle and upbringing of British and American women, before and during World War II. This movie states the culturaldifferences there are between and American and British people. The cultural differences are shown through the main character Luca, which shows the viewer the cultural differences between both these dominantcultures in Italy in this time.
The movie sets in Florence Italy in 1935 where a group of expatriate English women called by the Italians the Scorpioni meet every day to have tea together. CharlieLuca the main characters mom dies and his father Massimo Ghini shows no interest in his son’s upbringing. Marry Wallace an English women who works for Lucas father as a secretary supports and takes careof Luca as if he were his son. This is how Luca was brought in the Scorpioni group and the English culture. Luca was thought by the English women on their culture he was thought on how to live lifeand how to appreciate the arts. The English women in the movie where very rich and treated they were treated by the Italian very well. They loved the art but they where very polite, but in the back theywere very rood. An example of a person who was the leader of the Scorpioni women and was the perfect example of this behavior was Lady Hester Random. Hester was an old English woman who was shown inthe movie as the perfect English women. In the movie the people around her respected her for her name and money, she was very posh but at the same time she didn’t like the Americans and spoke very badabout them. She was racist to Jews and envied people who where more popular or higher in the social class than her. In the movie they just introduced one American called Elsa Morganthal.
