Question 1: Why can’t Gross National Income be directly used as a measure of income level? What does the PPP adjustment take into account? Why has it to be per capita?
Gross National Income is unable to be directly used as a measure of income level because it incorporates money from other countries. This can mislead the amount and cause theincome level to be higher than what the population actually makes. The PPP adjustment takes into account the need for balance between countries. It has to be per capita so that it could provide us with a better average by providing everyone’s income levels.

Question 2: How is life expectancy defined? Why not to use Crude
Death Rate (CDR)? What is the advantage of using life expectancy?Life expectancy represents the maximum number of years one has to live at their current age. We deviate away from Crude Death Rate because it seems to represent more of when someone is going to die instead of number of years one has left to live. It will let you know how many longer you’re expected to live. Life expectancy is useful because it not only represents the number of years that anindividual is expected to live as determined by statistics but we can use these values and merge them with population to evaluate and calculate life-years which in turn gives us a more accurate weighted average.

Question 3: : Find out the top five countries with the highest GNI PPP per capita and the bottom five countries with the lowest values. List these countries’ names and their income. Highest:Luxembourg | 64400 |
Norway | 53690 |
Kuwait | 49970 |
Brunei | 49900 |
Singapore | 48520 |
Lowest:
Guinea-Bissau | 470 |
Eritrea | 400 |
Burundi | 330 |
Congo, Dem. Rep. | 290 |
Liberia | 290 |

Question 4: How much is the difference between the highest and lowest country? 64,400 – 290 = 64,110

Question 5: If we want to find out the overall differencebetween these two groups, can we simply take an average of the five values of GNI PPP per capita within each group and compare the two means? Why or why not?
Yes, because taking an average represent and takes into account the entire data of both groups. It would be most accurate if the averages were calculated first then finding the difference.

Question 6: What is the average income foreither group? How much is the difference and how to interpret it Highest GNIPPP
Average of the top 5 highest: 53,296
Average of lowest: 356
Difference: 52,940 represents the average difference between the average mean in the two sets of data.

Question 7: Find out the top five countries with the highest life expectancy
and the bottom five countries with the lowest values. Listthese
countries’ names and their life expectancy.
Highest Life Expectancy Countries:
China, Hong Kong: 82
Switzerland: 82
San Marino: 82
Japan: 82
Singapore: 81
Lowest Life Expectancy Countries:
Central Africa Republic: 43
Mozambique: 43
Zambia: 38
Lesotho: 36
Swaziland: 33

Question 8: How much is the difference between the highest andlowest country?
82 – 33 = 49. The difference between the highest and lowest country in Life expectancy is 49.

Question 9: If we want to find out the overall difference between these two groups, can we simply take an average the five values of life expectancy within each group and compare the two means? Why or why not?
Yes, because once again taking the average in both groups takes intoaccount and incorporates all values within the data which provides us with the most accurate answer.

Question 10: What is the average life expectancy for either group? How much is the difference and how to interpret it?
For the highest life expectancy countries the average is 81.8 years old. For the lower life expectancy countries the average is 38.6 years old. The difference of the...
